His Plans are Certainly Not My Plans

I love to plan. I love to organize. I like things to be in order. A spur of the moment play date or coffee date is all good and fine, but I function great with a list and schedule. It guides me and makes me stay focused.

The past several years I have taken many tests. A personality test. A spiritual gift test. I have written down goals to get me through the next ten years and broken them down into items to do each year. Each month. I thrive on this.

The thing is. God. Well, God has been working overtime in the ‘organizing my time’ department for awhile now. He still ‘allows’ me to plan my weeks out. I just have to promise to be open to whatever he happens to throw into my path during the week. Some weeks he even lets me stay pretty much on track with what I have planned. Other weeks he blows my plans completely eschew. God has done something to my heart recently…well, he has been working on it diligently for years now as God has a habit of doing. Now I plan my weeks. Like, really, I sit down every Thursday and look at the week ahead. (Please tell me someone else does this!!) I plan our menu for the next week. I write out on my calendar how each day should flow. The difference is..I wake up each day excited to follow God with each breath I take. If he ‘messes up’ my plans it is exciting. Well, most of the time. Life is certainly an adventure. I am thrilled that God is in charge of my plans.

In my quiet time this morning I read: “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21

I certainly want HIS plans to stand and not mine.

What about you? How do you plan your week? Do you seek God for guidance?
